We met Daniel, who is unhoused and lives on the streets of Long Beach. We immediately began helping him with supplies and food for his dogs. After earning his trust, Daniel shared with us that he had 39 dogs in total. Despite his mental illness that caused him to keep so many dogs, Daniel acknowledged that he needed help.

He allowed us to microchip, vaccinate and deworm all the dogs. Although matted and dirty, the dogs were well fed and very dearly loved by him. We also trimmed nails and shaved the ones with mats. After many tough conversations with Daniel, he agreed to surrender 29 of the dogs into rescue. As a small rescue, we knew we needed assistance, so we reached out to our friends at Paw Works. We felt they were the most well equipped to care for Daniel’s dogs. They offered an immediate solution without judgment.

Please consider making a donation to Paw Works for the care of Daniel’s 29 dogs. They are the reason these dogs are getting a chance at a better life. They are our heroes and we will be forever grateful to them. We continue to support Daniel with the remaining 10 dogs he has with food and vet care, including spays and neuters. Our hope is that Daniel may be open to relinquishing more dogs to us as we continue to support him.

DANIEL’S DOGS- 29 LIVES SAVED

Our Word on the Street Program is designed to help with supplies and medical care for companion animals of the low income and homeless. Rooted in building trust with the owners, we show them through our actions that we are not here to judge, but to help.

Not even 24 hours later we met with Paw Works to begin loading the 29 dogs on their transport. It was a very emotional day as Daniel said goodbye to the dogs he had cared for and loved for so long. He kissed each one as they set off to their forever homes and we offered support by reminding him that he made the right decision. The dogs made the 2-hour trip to Paw Works, who immediately went to work on intake, bathing and grooming each of them. They were each set up for spays and neuters, and went into foster homes. After a short time, all of Daniel’s 29 dogs found their forever homes!
