REMEMBERING WOTS DOGS WHO HAVE PASSED
RIP MOLLY THE HUSKY
12-year-old Molly and her mom had recently gotten into temporary housing after being homeless in LA since 2019. After the passing of her husband, Molly's mom fell on hard times and found herself on the streets. Molly's mom is diabetic and Molly was a trained support dog. She signaled her mom when it was time to eat and she was trained to respond if she passed out…
BLANQUITA
When we took in Blanquita after a life of abuse and living on the streets, we knew she was extremely traumatized and was going to be a challenge. Word on the street is that Blanquita’s first owner was a violent person that kept her chained and muzzled 24/7 and would feed her through the muzzle "when he felt like it". He abandoned her chained to a car, and she was emaciated and her spirit broken. Blanquita showed aggression towards any human that got close to her. Her natural instinct was to fight to protect herself at all costs.
RIP GIZMO
One of our WOTS volunteers met Gizmo and his dad while handing out supplies. His dad was unhoused but had recently gotten into Section 8 Housing and was living on a budget of only $200 per month. Gizmo had started to get lumps all over his body and his dad could not afford veterinary care. We set up an appointment with our vet where he was examined, had a few of the tumors aspirated and sent for testing, and also received x-rays, bloodwork, and nail trim. The vet found over 20 tumors, lumps and skin tags on his body! It was also determined via x-rays that he had a mass on his spleen, and the lab results came back that he did, in fact, have Mast Cell Cancer. Unfortunately there was not much we could do for Gizmo and his dad elected not to do Chemotherapy. We provided his dad with a few options and respected his decision…
RIP DODGER
One of our volunteers met Dodger and his dad, who lived on the streets of Van Nuys. Dodger was 11 years old and had large painful tumors growing all over his mouth. As you can imagine, this made it very hard for him to eat, and was overall very uncomfortable for this poor boy!…
